A Day of Shopping

I had a day's leave on Friday. I took advantage of the warm early Autumn weather and spent the day shopping for Winter goodies!

It was good to see what's out there. It was also useful because I found out I don't suit black low-heeled ankle boots. So I'm sticking with camel/bone suede ankle boots. I picked up this pair of Hudson boots from Workshop - heavily discounted from $479 to $179:

I love the feminine details such as the perforations and the shaped ankle shaft. The colour is a warm weak coffee/camel colour with a hint of rose. They seem to go with everything!

I do however suit higher-heeled black ankle boots. I ended up buying the pair I've been coveting from Country Road:

I'll wear them with Winter dresses and opaques for work. I already have this one (in black) but I plan to purchase at least another. The final purchase? A black merino turtleneck from Glassons for $39.95:

There's an interesting story behind this one which I will discuss at length in a later post...

Easy Like Sunday Morning

Teaming a soft grey wool sweater with skinnies and ballet flats is an easy option for Sunday mornings!

Preppy

I have wanted to try the shirt-under-jumper preppy look for a while now. The only thing holding me back has been finding a white shirt to fit over my ridiculous bosom. Success, thanks to UK shirtmaker Charles Tyrwhitt (more about this brand in a separate post).

This combo is surprisingly comfortable. I thought the shirt would get all bunched up but it doesn't. It's also a versatile look. Below, I have styled it two ways simply by changing my jeans and footwear. There's a lot going on so I have kept my jewellery to a minimum.

Look one: Skinny boyfriend jeans + heels (think casual Friday, casual dinner out):

Look two: Skinny jeans + ballet flats (think weekend, casual conference/seminar):

The Skinny Boyfriend Jean

Aren't trends fascinating? Skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans... skinny boyfriend jeans. Of course!

Actually, I've been rocking said skinny boyfriend jeans for several months now. My Workshop skinny jeans are (to me) similar to a skinny boyfriend style although they are more fitted. I roll the hem just like a boyfriend jean and get a similar vibe. These jeans have been the perfect solution to my dilemma: my figure is actually too boyish for true boyfriend jeans!

PS - for more information about SBJs, the lovely Jess Cartner-Morley (Fashion Editor from The Guardianshows you some current styles and how to wear them in her weekly video column.

Purchase: New Skinny Jeans

I've never owned a pair of Workshop Denim jeans but picked up these lovelies on sale in Wellington last Friday:

Photo: Workshop

These are the 5 Pocket Skinny in Dark Vintage style. Originally, I bought the size 13 but exchanged them for the size 14 in Auckland a couple of days later. They are a mid-rise and the leg length is perfect for me. The wash is a mid-to-dark blue. The legs are skinny but not like jeggings. Expect to see these babies styled up in future posts - especially when I share my wisdom on the minefield that is casual Friday dressing. Love!
