A Leopard in the Urban Jungle

This post marks the beginning of my collaboration with local photographer Sara Mole. Stay tuned for more images from around our fantastic city of sails.

Want to try animal print but afraid of looking like an extra from Coronation Street? Try a grey print instead of the usual yellow or orange-toned leopard print. You get the best of both worlds: elegance with a bit of an edge. Keep accessories minimal and the silhouette simple:

Metallica

Metallics are everywhere but it doesn't necessarily follow that this is an easy trend to wear. As a more mature member of society, it's my responsibility not to frighten children or pets so I have chosen to interpret this trend in a very subtle way.

This black tshirt from Country Road just hit stores. Its sheen is only very slight - more oil slick than metallic - but the effect is fantastic. Here I have teamed it with charcoal grey skinny jeans, my trusty point-toe heels and some chunky jewellery for a rock vibe:

Preppy

I have wanted to try the shirt-under-jumper preppy look for a while now. The only thing holding me back has been finding a white shirt to fit over my ridiculous bosom. Success, thanks to UK shirtmaker Charles Tyrwhitt (more about this brand in a separate post).

This combo is surprisingly comfortable. I thought the shirt would get all bunched up but it doesn't. It's also a versatile look. Below, I have styled it two ways simply by changing my jeans and footwear. There's a lot going on so I have kept my jewellery to a minimum.

Look one: Skinny boyfriend jeans + heels (think casual Friday, casual dinner out):

Look two: Skinny jeans + ballet flats (think weekend, casual conference/seminar):
